Why I Do What I Do
Special Students Consultants – Special Education Consulting Services
Thoughtful support for families seeking clarity, confidence, and a trusted guide through the special education process.
I provide educational consulting for families navigating IEPs, 504 plans, and MTSS across Duval, St. Johns, Clay, Nassau, and Baker Counties in Northeast Florida.
My work is grounded in deep school-based special education leadership and centered on helping parents understand their child’s needs, make sense of complex educational information, and feel more prepared for important school decisions.
I bring 25 years of experience in special education, including extensive service as a Fully Released VE (FRVE) teacher in Duval County Public Schools. In that role, I was released from classroom teaching to support schools across instructional, behavioral, and compliance areas, and I frequently served as the LEA designee during IEP meetings.
For the last five years of my career, I also served as the LEA and Compliance Designee for a local charter network, guiding IEP teams, supporting school-based implementation, and helping ensure IDEA compliance.
Although much of my direct experience is rooted in Duval County, the systems, compliance expectations, and team-based decision-making I support are consistent across public and charter school settings throughout Northeast Florida.
I hold a Master’s degree from the University of North Florida in Special Education, with a focus on disability services. I am also State of Florida certified for Special Education K-12, English 6-12, Family Consumer Science and am endorsed in the areas of reading, ESOL and gifted programming.
Why LEA-level Experience Matters
At IEP and 504 meetings, meaningful decisions depend on understanding both what the law requires and what can be implemented well in a school setting. LEA-level experience brings insight into how instruction, services, staffing, and compliance work together inside real schools—often before concerns become larger challenges.
Because I have served as both an LEA and Compliance Designee, I approach planning and meetings with a focus on clarity, collaboration, and practical solutions. Rather than escalating tension, I help families and school teams identify supports that are appropriate, sustainable, and responsive to a child’s needs—while also protecting important working relationships.

The “Kitchen Table” Consultation & IEP Translation
This is not a cold document review over email. It is a supportive, personalized conversation where we sit down together—in person at a designated location or virtually, based on your preference—to review the paperwork, clarify what it means, and discuss next steps. I ask families to send all relevant documents 3–4 days in advance so I can come prepared and make our time together as helpful as possible.
What it includes:
· I review all documents before the meeting.
· A 90-minute in-person meeting where we walk through the paperwork together, identify the most important data points, clarify what the school is seeing, discuss your child’s needs, and review practical accommodations and services supported by the documentation and your child’s disability.
· You leave with a Parent’s Strategy Binder that includes your child’s accommodation checklist, target goals, and practical resources to help you prepare for school meetings and organize documents related to the IEP or 504 process.
· Primary purpose: To help parents feel confident in their child’s plan, accommodations, and services so they can advocate effectively and better understand the terminology commonly used in school meetings.
· The value: You are not just receiving an analysis—you are gaining a knowledgeable, thoughtful partner who can help you understand the process, ask informed questions, and move forward with greater confidence.
FEE: $350 - $500
If you are feeling overwhelmed or unsure where to begin, I would be honored to help you better understand the process, prepare for important conversations, and take the next step with confidence.
